Posted - 08/07/2008 : 20:06:49 It's not easy learning another language. Sometimes you get words muddled up, like the time I think I previously reported on the Forums I had been 'covered like a piece of furniture' rather than annoyed.
Today's Spanish lesson had me crying with laughter.
First off my Spanish teacher set a scene where I was in a grocery store and had to request all the items on her list: nuts, a loaf of bread, a few leaves of parsley, some toothpaste and a bar of soap. Easy. I successfully ordered the nuts, bread, parsley and toothpaste. Then I fell down at the last - I asked for a bar of ... soup! Note: sopa is soup. Soap is jabon. I knew that of course, but it just came out wrong.
My Spanish teacher found this highly amusing, but I was to get my own back later on during her tales of woe at the playful foxes that had been digging tunnels in her garden. They had created such a hole, that she had to go to the DIY shop and buy a great big bag of ... ground!!
A bag of ground! Oh how I laughed, and we both laughed - at each other. Me with my bar of soup and her with her bag of ground.
Still, the two of us won't make the same mistakes again! |
