Posted - 04/04/2008 : 00:01:25 We at last found a destination reachable by bus - the city of Murcia. I read that Tuesday was the day of the Fiesta Mayor - a day when the city would be filled with people dressed in regional costume, singing traditional songs and cooking an open-air free for all with drinks flowing and live music playing. So Tuesday was our day and we were looking forward to this one.
Three sets of directions it took us to find the bus stop. 'It's merely a five minute walk' we were told. 'Past the gasolinera and near the supermarket'. 20 minutes of walking later, the lovely lady in the supermarket told us a different story. This is all in Spanish by the way. 'Just past the armchair shop'. Armchair shop? Did I get that right? Could there really be a retailer of soft furnishings in a place where only estate agencies survive? Kevin was doubtful. The morning sun had begun to burn through our top layer of 'it's only March' clothing. Then there, on the heat-fuzzed horizon we saw it. A mirage. Yes, it was the armchair shop. Kevin's faith in my Spanish was restored and just a few feet on was a bus stop. But was it the bus stop? There was nothing to identify it, anything resembling a timetable or map had been ripped down and replaced by posters advertising golfer's paradises. But another nice lady confirmed we were going in the right direction and we waited for, then boarded our bus into the realms of the Spanish City Fiesta.
What on earth had we let ourselves in for? |

Posted - 04/04/2008 : 10:43:31 WELL! you won't be going there again. Can't wait for the next installment I hope you are in the process of writing 'a good and bad guide' to Spanish cities eventually. Maybe you could give them a star rating.
