There's a little patisserie come bodega in Av. Costa Brava, just on the corner as you cross the bridge from the other side of the river.

A couple of years ago we were collecting the Sangria miniatures that come in the fancy little bottles - in the shape of Flamenco dancers, guitars, shoes, etc. - to display in our kitchen at home.

There was a little bottle in the shape of one of those traditional long spouted wine decanters (the porro). It was filled with Sangria and had a little cork stopper in the end of the spout.

Why oh why I don't know, but whilst admiring the little bottle, Kevin decided to remove the cork stopper. Within half a second, the entire contents of the bottle had, with some force, shot out and covered me.

I was standing there in the shop, with sangria dripping off my nose, in my ear, all over my feet, my bag and my top. I looked at Kevin, and there he was, bottle in one hand, stopper in the other, jaw dropped to the floor, not knowing whether to laugh or run. Sniggers could be heard behind us. 'Probably best to get out now while they're not looking' someone said. Great, so we'd had an audience as well!

Now Kevin's dabbing me with his hankie, trying to soak up the sangria from my ear. I still hadn't decided whether to laugh or slap him!

Anyway, I managed to ease my feet out of the sticky mess on the floor, squelched up to the counter and paid for the miniatures. Well, that's the least we could do! Naturally, we swapped the empty one for a full one!

As we walked past the window of the shop, we paused to inspect the damage. A pool of sangria on the floor, an empty bottle in the display. Could have been worse - there was a bigger version of that decanter on the shelf!

Sarah and Kevin,
I bet you licked the floor really, rather than let the sangria go to waste .
Funniest thing that happened to us in a shop, although not in Tossa, Years ago I had my children with me in a dress shop and as usual they were getting bored, David decided to take a closer look at the mannequin that was dressed in the latest fashion, he gave it an accidental knock, and it's wig fell off, you should have seen his face, Clare was in stitches and we all made a hasty exit.

We would love to live in Tossa !!!

Well, we were sad to waste the Sangria, but made up for it with a jug or two later that evening.

I do like Sangria - I managed to consume a total of 19 glasses in the hotel bar alone during the September stay! (Not all in one night of course!) Otherwise I may have knocked someones wig off!
