Is anyone else finding it harder to get to Tossa these days? We now have to fly to Barcelona and other friends in Scotland and Newcastle are having terrible trouble getting flights to Girona, with little or no choice of time or airline. Barcelona is hardly the 'handy' option with a 1.5 hour transfer time, although I have to say Juan Carlos does make it a pleasant journey with his amusing chatter.

Are they trying to make the Costa Brava so exclusive that no one can get there?

Or do the airlines just feel it's not worth their while? Perhaps Girona airport is charging too much for the pleasure of landing there - we all know that Catalonia is the wealthiest region in Spain (and that's another discussion topic of it's own).

From the Midlands we have only two flights a week to Girona from Birmingham between May and October (TC & Thomson) - both geared to package tours and much more expensive than scheduled to Barcelona (twice daily from either Birmingham or Coventry).
So........ if we want to fly to Girona we have to fly with RA from East Midlands (60 min £60 cab fare) and one day they fly at 06.30(No.....) and the other day at 18.00.
RA appear to have a monopoly at Girona and I believe there are 4-6 aircraft based there for 2008.
We enjoy our drive down to Tossa each May but would not want to do it more than once a year.
However - if it is going to be harder to get to Tossa does that mean the beaches will be quieter

To date, we have found it easier to get to Tossa than in previous years. Obviously, we are lucky that RA fly every day from Blackpoolto Girona, at reasonable times, and we only have the taxi-fare at the Spanish end, as our son-in-law transports us at this end (only a 35 minute drive) Of course, there is a meal for 4 in this, but we look forward to that on our return
No doubt this will not last for ever
